Photochrome Camera Club

San Francisco Photography Club: Established 1942

Archive for April, 2011

There has been a Photochrome Flickr group for a few years but it has been neglected and I don’t think many current users know about it. I’d encourage any current Photochrome members to join the group especially if you’re already Flickr members.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years, Flickr is the leading photo sharing site and it’s part of the Yahoo empire (if you already have a Yahoo account you don’t even have to create a separate Flickr account). It’s free tojoin and share up to 200 pictures. If you want more than that then there is a modest annual fee. Flickr is like the world’s biggest camera club: you can make friends there or connect with people you already know. There are also ‘groups‘ on every subject possible that you can join and add your pictures too to share with other group members. A group also has a discussion forum associated with it. As the Photochrome website doesn’t have a dedicated forum associated with it I suggest we use the Flickr Photochrome Group discussion forum so that we can talk amongst ourselves.

If you add your pictures you the group you will notice that they will be displayed in a Flickr widget in the sidebar of this site (look to the right). I hope members will take advantage of the Photochrome Flickr Group specifically and Flickr in general to find a supportive photo community between meetings. If you have any questions of concerns please raise them in the comments of this post and I’ll do my best to address them. See you on Flickr.

The Judge at our March judge night was hard pressed to choose a single image so he gave us a selection of his favorites. In no particular order, here they are. Congratulations to all who were chosen.

Photowalking w/Thomas Hawk: USS Hornet - Bow

Let’s arrive at 10:00am when it opens.

Directions:

For GPS information enter 707 W Hornet Ave. Pier 3, Alameda CA 94501.

From San Francisco and the Bay Bridge: Cross the Bay Bridge towards Oakland and follow the signs for I-880 South/San Jose/Alameda. Take the Broadway/Alameda exit and turn right at the bottom of the ramp onto 5th Street. Continue straight on 5th Street, remaining on street level. At the Broadway intersection, veer to your left to enter the Webster Street Tube (the Alameda entrance to the tunnel is under the freeway).

Admission: Adults $14   Seniors (65+) $12.

This National Historic Landmark has four decks to explore and photograph. Some decks are docent-led only. So manage your time carefully if you intend to see it all. The ship will be commemorating it’s 69th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid with flight operation simulations. This should be interesting to photograph. We are asked to not bring food. However, there is a concession stand and vending machines on board.

H and Martin will introduce members to the issue of White Balance from capture through to post processing. They will demonstrate how to choose an appropriate WB setting or methods for creating a custom white balance in your camera. They will also show how to tweak your WB back in the digital darkroom – all methods are equally applicable to Lightroom, Photoshop and Elements. After the meeting we encourage members to go and try what was presented for themselves and to bring back their findings to the following Exploring Photography session.

The images from the Japanese Tea Garden field trip will also be projected.

Send your digital images by midnight Wednesdays to: Photochromeprojectionist@gmail.com

Mark your images:

  • category*-First Name-Last Name-Title. Jpg

*category is:

  • Pic2 (Pick Two) two images from each member attending the field trip.

Please note: digital images should be re-sized so that the longest side is no more than 1024 pixels. That is how they fit properly on our projection equipment.
