Doubletree Hotel, Modesto, CA.
Several of our members plan to attend this popular event. It happens every two years and always has fascinating programs. If you want to go, there probably still is room, so look up the complete information at N4C.org and tell us all about it when you come home.

Here’s the pdf version of Color News, November 2009. If you are still receiving your Color News through snail mail and would prefer to get it electronically in your email (and save Photochrome a little overhead into the bargain) please email SFalice@aol.com and Alice Steele will sort you out.

November 19th @ 7:30pm

The Life of a Wildlife Photographer:

Professional wildlife photographer for six years, Suzi Eszterhas specializes in photographing wildlife families in their native habitats. Her photographs have been published both nationally and internationally, most recently in Time (cover),Smithsonian, and BBC Wildlife magazines. On Thursday, November 19, Suzi will give a slide presentation on her adventures photographing wildlife around the world. She’ll take you to a bush camp in Kenya’s Masai Mara Reserve, where she lived for four years; by helicopter, to track and photograph polar bears; on foot in the Alaska wilderness, for images of grizzlies; and to Antarctica, as an expedition staff photographer. Suzi will discuss what it takes to be successful in her profession, including research, equipment, and how to cope with the unique challenges of working in the wilds.

These are the instructions for using the free program Picasa to resize your images for submission for electronic projection at any Photochrome meetings, presentations or competitions. If you’re new to Picasa you might want to read some of the Getting Started Guide to find you feet in the program. Picasa is owned by Google and is an image management/browser piece of software that has some limited editing capabilities.

The proceedure for using Picasa to re-size you images for submission is as follows:

  • Browse to the image you want to re-size and select it
  • Menu: File > Export to Folder
  • Choose the file location you want the reduced size file to be created in
  • “Resize to” 1024 (use the slider of the field to enter this value)
  • Quality should be set to “Automatic” or “Maximum”.
  • Press the Export button
  • Picasa will generate the small file  and it will automatically open up the results directory when it completes the process
  • Rename the image file according to Photochrome file naming standards.
  • Start your email program and address a new message to photochromeprojectionist@gmail.com
  • Attach the file you just renamed to this email and submit it
  • In a few minutes you should receive a confirmation email from photochrome documenting your successful submission.

If anything is unclear please comment here and we will try to address you issues.
