These are the instructions for using the free program Picasa to resize your images for submission for electronic projection at any Photochrome meetings, presentations or competitions. If you’re new to Picasa you might want to read some of the Getting Started Guide to find you feet in the program. Picasa is owned by Google and is an image management/browser piece of software that has some limited editing capabilities.

The proceedure for using Picasa to re-size you images for submission is as follows:

  • Browse to the image you want to re-size and select it
  • Menu: File > Export to Folder
  • Choose the file location you want the reduced size file to be created in
  • “Resize to” 1024 (use the slider of the field to enter this value)
  • Quality should be set to “Automatic” or “Maximum”.
  • Press the Export button
  • Picasa will generate the small file  and it will automatically open up the results directory when it completes the process
  • Rename the image file according to Photochrome file naming standards.
  • Start your email program and address a new message to photochromeprojectionist@gmail.com
  • Attach the file you just renamed to this email and submit it
  • In a few minutes you should receive a confirmation email from photochrome documenting your successful submission.
